INSIDE THE

WHITE CUBE

WHAT? Inside the White Cube – Suzanne Song

WHERE? White Cube, Mason’s Yard, 25–26 Mason’s Yard, London SW1Y 6BU

WHEN? Now until 3 October. Free to view.

WHY GO? For a play on pattern. London’s contemporary White Cube gallery is always one step ahead in introducing new artists. The latest addition to their influential line-up is Korean-American artist Suzanne Song with her first UK exhibition—and it’s a conceptual whirl of geometric patterns.
Part of their Inside the White Cube series—showcasing work by non-represented artists who have made a mark in their own arenas—it will excite young art patrons keen to discover diverse new talent. Song’s paintings and works on paper are precise, mathematical, and geometric in construction—resembling pleats and folds like origami. She plays with shifts of scale and shafts of colour. The overall effect is mesmerising—a mental graphic workout.
It’s easy to imagine her patterns transferred to textiles for fashion designers such as Comme des Garçons to play around with. Catch this while you can; it could be the start of something big.

IN THE KNOW Coming soon at White Cube’s Bermondsey gallery: an exciting exhibition by Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang, featuring his distinctive gunpowder paintings. He is noted for staging large, ‘explosive’ installations—specifically his iconic 2003 project for Tate Modern which extended across the Millennium Bridge terminating in the Turbine Hall. From 26 September; check online for details.
