WHY GO?  To time travel. Film maker, installation artist and all-round creative genius, Isaac Julien’s work is always guaranteed to excite. This world premiere of his five-screen installation All That Changes You. Metamorphosis was originally commissioned to celebrate 500 years of Palazzo Te in Mantua, Italy and it is mesmerising.
An imaginative mix of poetry, film and art, it’s dramatised by actors Gwendoline Christie and Sheila Atim, who are dreamily transported through time, from the ancient frescos of Palazzo Te into a post-human future, filmed throughout in locations such as Cosmic House that are all architectural gems.
Their mythical characters are based on heroines created by two of Julien’s favourite authors, Octavia E. Butler and Naomi Mitchison.
It all leaves much to the imagination and is loosely based around the premise of how change affects humans.
Five screens simultaneously offer multiple visuals, leaving viewers free to fantasise and translate Julien’s philosophical theories and unravel Butler’s famous quote, “All that you change, changes you”.
Spinning through almost 30 minutes of film, there’s a gallery of accompanying photographic work to help set the scene.

IN THE KNOW  Following his five-screen installation, Isaac Julien will exhibit a single-screen version of All That Changes You. Metamorphosis at Cosmic House that responds to the architecture and carries through his theme of temporal time. On view from 22 April – 18 December.
