WHY GO? For free open‑air art. If you're up for wandering around the City of London, you’ll spot 11 sculptural gems to intrigue and delight. This rotating annual art show endorses London’s mission to provide art for all amongst the hustle and bustle of urban commerce. There’s always a new discovery, new artist and new theme to stimulate just around the corner. This, the 14th edition, showcases 11 new artworks from famous names like Ai Weiwei and Julian Opie along with emerging artists whose names will be propelled to fame as a result of their participation. Dotted around the City of London—from Bishopsgate to Mitre Square—sculptures chime with gleaming skyscrapers like The Leadenhall Building. There’s a family map to follow the trail (online and easy to navigate) for this is an outdoorsy art‑lover’s perfect outing. Delivered by the City of London Corporation alongside LACUNA, and supported by partners including Bloomberg, no subject is taboo—and it’s fun to pick a favourite. Could it be Ai Weiwei’s Roots: Palace in Bishopsgate or maybe Maya Rose Edwards’s Kissing Gate in Aldgate Square? Whichever you choose, every sculpture has presence, and collectively the project makes Londoners proud of their great city.
IN THE KNOW Sisters Jane and Louise Wilson continue their unique ink/microscopic imagery theme in Dendrophilesfor Sculpture in the City, with an additional site‑specific installation, Performance of Entrapment, at the nearby London Mithraeum Bloomberg Space—also free to view.
